The place to be right now is France! Musically it is spawning the very best of the new up-and-coming punk, rock, indie, dance and new wave bands and DJ’s. Combined, these artists are rapidly engendering an exciting and innovative music scene. This is the French Revolution of which we speak. Since its creation in 2006, Poni Hoax, Koko Von Napoo, Neimo, Brooklyn, Housse De Racket, Nelson and Dat Politics have been over to play amoung many more. The French Revolution has helped launched the British careers and tours of these artist and is the first point of contact for the French industry looking to get a British fan base.
Teaming up with the brilliant last.fm for their monthly night at the big chill house, they have managed to get the amazing Jackson and His Computer band over to play a DJ set. This will be one of his only appearances in the UK this year! The Parisian innovator, Jackson (Warp Records) who many know as the producer behind ‘Utopia’, the shimmering six-minute après-rave odyssey that was used to great effect in a mobile commercial in the UK.
Supporting Jackson are the one of the most interesting and supported DJ duo in France since Justice. Monsieur Monsieur are also coming to London especially for this gig. The young DJ / Producers first grabbed attention at the end of 2009 with their debut release on New York’s Coco Machete Records. The King of French Electro at the moment Brodinski, had this to say about them “Not Because They Are My Friends, they’re amazing. This remix is the best thing they ever did. It’s Simple and SOOO Good in club, sounds crazy. I test it @ Warehouse Project everyone asking me what it was after that.”
Noise of Art’s Ben Osborne will be taking over to the top floor dance floor of the French Revolution club night on Friday 16 April. Having introduced the UK to many A list French acts, including most of the Ed Banger roster and more recently new pysch -techno artist Etienne Jaumet, Ben is a natural UK DJ choice for French Revolution.
The live aspect of the night will be brought to life by the fabulous TV Glory (France’s answer to Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem). Citing the Talking Heads as well as the Beach Boys, the Kinks as well as Hot Chip, these four young men from Lille in the North of France like to distinguish themselves thanks to their good taste.
Resident DJs La Meche (French Revolution) battles it out against the last.fm DJ team playing a healthy blend of electro, hip hop and dirty pop sounds. MORE INFO bigchill.net/house last.fm/presents
